Dr. Stanten was born and raised in Oakland, California. He graduated from Georgetown University Medical School in Washington, D.C. and returned home to complete his internship and residency at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland. He has been practicing in Oakland since he completed his training, starting out with his father who has since retired. He is an accomplished general surgeon, who sees the gamut of general surgical problems, with expertise in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery (minimally-invasive surgery). His brother is a senior cardiothoracic surgeon in the community as well.
Outside of work, Dr. Stanten loves all sports, both as a participant and spectator. He also loves spending time with his wife, three daughters, and grandchildren.
Dr. Stanten has privileges at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland and Berkeley, St. Rose Hospital in Hayward, Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, and San Ramon Regional Medical Center in San Ramon, as well as the Surgery Center of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland.
