Dr. Mary Cardoza is a fourth-generation Californian who was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She received her Bachelor of Science in biology from Yale University in 1983 and then attended the UCLA School of Medicine, graduating in 1987. During her general surgery residency with the UC Davis – East Bay program, Dr. Cardoza spent her lab year doing cancer research at both the Martinez VA Hospital and UC Davis. In 1995, Dr. Cardoza established her surgical practice in Contra Costa County. She has always held a special interest in breast surgery and has been one of the main surgeons for the “Every Woman Counts” program at both John Muir Health, Concord Medical Center and Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch. The program provides breast cancer screenings and diagnostic services for uninsured women.

In addition to her interest in diseases of the breast, she performs gallbladder, thyroid, and colon surgeries, as well as hernia repairs. She also helped establish and participates in the Acute Care Surgery program at John Muir, Concord Medical Center. Dr. Cardoza has served as the director of breast health services at Sutter Delta Medical Center and the chairman of the department of surgery at John Muir Health, Concord Medical Center. She maintains privileges at the Walnut Creek and Concord John Muir Health Medical Centers, Sutter Delta Medical Center, and several local surgery centers. Dr. Cardoza is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
